Tata Motors bags Business Excellence Award 2005

The inauguration of the 13th Quality Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry Institute of Quality in Bangalore, was marked by the Commercial Vehicles Business Unit of Tata Motors [Get Quote], winning the prestigious CII-Exim Bank Award for Business Excellence, 2005.

CVBU of Tata Motors has joined the elite group of high performance organisations, according to CII. "The high standards set for this award is seen from the fact that in the last 12 years, there have been only four winners and the last winner of this award was in 2002, Infosys Technologies Ltd [Get Quote]."

Tata Motors has adopted business excellence framework as the long-term strategy with clear vision to drive improvements throughout the organisations. The leadership has recognised its people, suppliers and dealers as vital link in the transformation process and brought in improvements in management systems and processes to establish high performing and learning organisation, a CII statement said.

The award process is very rigorous, supported by a pool of more than 250 qualified assessors drawn from senior business management professionals from industry, CII said.

A team of qualified assessors study the applicant organisations, investing about 1,000 man-hours for each organisation, using the Business Excellence Model developed by European Foundation for Quality Management.
