Maruti Udyog Ltd [Get Quote] on Wednesday launched its new model 'Swift' in India, pricing the base model at Rs 3.87 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company, which is 54.2 per cent owned by Japan's Suzuki Motors, has priced VXi variant of the model at Rs 4.05 lakh while the ZXi variant is at Rs 4.85 lakh.

MUL managing director Jagdish Khattar said the company had managed about 8,000-9,000 bookings of the model even before its launch.  He, however, refused to divulge any target sales figure.

A company official said the company has planned production of 200 units of the model per day, which takes its sales target to roughly 6,000 units per month.

The Swift is here!

What makes Suzuki Swift so desirable!

Asked if Suzuki had plans to use India as a production base for exporting Swift to other markets, he said there were no immediate plans. "However, we will be exporting it to neighbouring markets," Khattar added.

Swift, Suzuki Motor's world car, is based on the European design and styling, built with Japanese quality and precision. With the participation of Indian engineers during the design stage, the car has many India-relevant features.

"These include a higher ground clearance, more headroom in the rear, a more robust supension and more powerful air conditioning," the company said, adding that the car carries a high 86 per cent localisation.

Bookings for the model have already been started, the company said, adding that deliveries will begin in the first week of June.
