Public sector bank employees are on a nationwide strike today to protest against mergers and acquisition of domestic banks and government's move to allow 74 per cent foreign direct investment in private banks.
The strike has severely affected banking operations all over the country.
The Supreme Court had ruled in August 2004 that government employees have no fundamental, legal or moral right to go on strike.
