Samsung India on Thursday said it would launch 12 more new models of GSM mobile handsets in the second half of the year apart from the 10 models already introduced in the first five months and aimed at a market share of 16 to 17 per cent in the GSM segment by the year end.

Speaking to reporters after the launch of two new advanced handsets -- SGH C230 and SGH X640 -- H C Ryu, director (telecom), Samsung, said the company was focusing on customising its products to better meet the needs of Indian customers.

"We are aiming for market leadership in the premium phone category by the year 2007 and expect to grow the folder phone category in India," he said.

Samsung India is targeting over 90 per cent of its sales to come from the colour/camera phone market, Ryu said.

Select Samsung handset models today support upto seven regional Indian language menus including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati and Kannada.

Asked if Samsung India planned to set up a manufacturing facility in India, he remained non-committal, saying, "If that possibility comes to our company, that maybe.. but it is not the proper time to say that (about setting up the manufacturing facility)."
