Dairy stalls at stations now!

February 26, 2005 12:41 IST

Milk stalls will be allotted to apex dairy cooperative societies of the Centre or state government as part of the new catering policy, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said.

Presenting the 2005-06 Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha, he said these societies would not have to participate in open tender and will be given stalls on the basis of application in all categories of stations.

The minister had announced last year the promotion of sale of milk, curd, 'mattha' (butter milk) and dairy products.

Prasad also said sale of other hygienic eatables and beverages in eco-friendly potteries and dishes like 'kulhars' (earthen pots) will be promoted.

In the coming year, the Minister said 'clean train station system' will be implemented in at least one station of each zonal railway and this total is proposed to be raised to fifty during the course of the next five years.
