74,000 new jobs by March-end

Reflecting a robust economy, a whopping 74,075 jobs are expected to be created in India by over 2,000 companies during the January-March period, according to the findings of a survey.

The survey by Ma Foi Management Consultants, an HR services company, also found Chennai topping the chart for survey in top cities in the Ma Foi Employment Index (MEI), which tracks the pace of recruitment activity.

Chennai was followed by Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai in the MEI index. Among the states, Haryana scored over other states in the MEI index. Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab were the other top gainers in the MEI index, as per the survey.

It said IT and IT-enabled services were expected to provide more job opportunities while other sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles and garments, automobiles and auto ancillaries, retail and manufacturing sectors were also on the growth path.

Of the top 20 hirers, four are from manufacturing, three from IT and textiles & garments and two from ITeS, energy and ET&C. Interestingly, four PSUs features in the top 20 hirers in terms of absolute number increase, the survey said.

"The hiring confidence is upbeat and total employment projections robust," the Ma Foi survey said, adding that 2046 companies across 17 sectors were "altogether looking at creating 74,075 jobs in the quarter."
