"We are looking at the mango issue," US embassy officials said when asked about the delay in conducting the pest risk analysis, a must for export of any fruit to that country.

India, which is keen on exporting mangoes to the US, has raised the issue of its mangoes facing non-tariff barriers. New Delhi had sought sanitary and phyto sanitary clearances from the US authorities, under which the latter was to carry out a pest risk analysis of the fruit.

Though the request was made 17 years ago, the US authorities have not completed a PRA. On the issue of anti-dumping duty on shrimps, they said, "It was found negative during a recent review... we keep doing the reviews regularly."

The mango issue had figured in the Indo-US trade policy forum meeting last month between Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and US Under Secretary of Agriculture J B Penn.

During the meeting of the forum, various sub-groups were set up to look into the issues raised at the meeting and get back on it when trade ministers of the two countries meet again at the Forum early next year.

The US also had raised concerns about the uncertainty surrounding exports of its almonds.
