HCL plans BPO unit in Pondicherry

Focussing its attention on technology and, research and development based outsourcing, HCL [Get Quote] BPO will open an offshoring centre in Pondicherry in 2006, HCL BPO service president and CEO Ranjit Narasimhan said on Thursday.

It has already launched such BPO centres in Noida, Bangalore, Chennai, Northern Ireland and Mauritius, he said.

HCL technologies is one of the country's leading global information technology services company providing software led IT solutions, BPO and remote infrastructure management services.

The company has focussed its attention on technology and research and development outsourcing, working with clients in areas at the core of their business, he said.

The company had leveraged an extensive offshore infrastructure and its global network of 26 offices in 15 countries to deliver solutions across verticals including banking, insurance, retail and consumer.

For the 12 month ending September 30 this year, the company along with its subsidiaries had revenues of $814 million and has employed 30,000 employees.

He said in each of the BPO centres, the company was operating, as many as 1,000 people.
