Hyundai Tucson @ Rs 14.3 lakh!

April 06, 2005 17:56 IST

Hyundai Motors on Wednesday enhanced its product portfolio in India by bringing in Tucson, its latest sports utility vehicle.

The company, which hopes to sell 150-200 units of the vehicle per month, would be bringing it as a completely-built unit.

Tucson, priced at Rs 14.3 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) would be its second product in the SUV segment where Terracan is already present at Rs 19 lakh.

"Though in the same segment, Terracan and Tucson are different vehicles. While Terracan is a full-fledged SUV, Tucson is a milder form, which complements as a car, a SUV and a multi-purpose vehicle. Both the products would therefore, co-exist in our portfolio," BVR Subbu, president, HMIL, told reporters.

Powered by a 2-litre CRDi diesel engine, Tucson comes with 'torque on demand' four-wheel drive combining both automatic and manual drive.

The company is aiming to sell 1,500-2,000 units of the Tucson annually even as it hopes to maintain the about 500-unit sale of Terracan.

Subbu said initially the company would bring the new vehicle as a CBU and depending on the sales, it may bring it as semi-knocked down unit and then as completely knocked down.

The vehicle will primarily compete with models like Ford's Endeavour, Honda's CR-V and Suzuki's Grand Vitara.
