Sensex drops 49 points at close

The last half-an-hour of the trading session witnessed an unprecendented selling pressure, which saw the index slip to an intra-day low of 5,455.

The Sensex finally closed with a loss of 49 points at 5,463. The Nifty lost 17 points to close at 1,700.

Tata Motors plunged 3.26% (Rs 13) to Rs 396. Hero Honda slipped 1.71% (Rs 8) to Rs 435. While Maruti declined 2.68% (Rs 10) to Rs 357, Bajaj was down 1.17% (Rs 12) at Rs 975.

Infosys shed 1.68% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,611. Wipro and Satyam were down a per cent each at Rs 571 (down Rs 6) and Rs 365 (down Rs 5), respectively.

While ITC closed down a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 1,128, HLL ended flat at Rs 120. Reliance closed up a rupee at Rs 496.

BHEL lost 2% (Rs 12) to Rs 563. While Tata Power dropped 2.34% (Rs 7) to Rs 302, Reliance Energy ended a per cent lower (Rs 6) at Rs 630.   Bharti slumped 2.44% (Rs 4) to Rs 142.   

 

 

 

 

Sensex @

Fresh selling pressure in auto, select tech and other old economy counters pushed the index to an intra-day low of 5,455. The Sensex is now down 48 points at 5,464.

Infosys has declined nearly 2% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,611. While Satyam has slipped 1.27% (Rs 5) to Rs 366, Wipro is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 572.

Tata Motors has plunged 3.30% (Rs 13) to Rs 396. Hero Honda has lost 1.77% (Rs 8) to Rs 435. While Maruti has tumbled 2.75% (Rs 10) to Rs 357, Bajaj is down a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 978.

ITC is trading with a per cent loss (Rs 10) at Rs 1,128. While Reliance is up a rupee at Rs 496, HLL is trading on a flat note at Rs 120.

L&T has crashed 2.27% (Rs 20) to Rs 855. Other cement stocks are displaying a divergent trend.  Tata Power has declined 2.16% (Rs 7) to Rs 303. Reliance Energy and BHEL are down a per cent each at Rs 632 (down Rs 4) and Rs 567 (down Rs 8), respectively.

Bharti has shed 2.44% (Rs 4) to Rs 142.  HDFC Bank (up Rs 7 or 1.85% to Rs 405) and HDFC (up Rs 2 to Rs 608) are trading in the green. ICICI Bank, however, is down a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 317. SBI also is trading lower by 1.58% (Rs 8) at Rs 466.

 

 

The Sensex is slipped to an new low of 5,467, and is now down 36 points at 5,476. The Nifty is at 1,705, down 13 points.

Infosys and Wipro continue to languish at the same lower levels of Rs 1,617 and Rs 573, respectively. Satyam has moved down Rs 3 to Rs 368.

Reliance has moved up Rs 3 to Rs 498. While ITC is down Rs 2 at Rs 1,136, HLL is unchanged at Rs 120.  Dr.Reddy's is down a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 740. While Cipla is up a rupee at Rs 284, Ranbaxy is unchanged at Rs 1,087.

L&T has declined 1.5% (Rs 13) to Rs 862. While Gujarat Ambuja is up Rs 2 at Rs 335, ACC and Grasim are trading flat at Rs 268 and Rs 1,127, respectively.

Tata Motors is down 2.6% (Rs 11) at Rs 399. Maruti has slumped 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 360, and Hero Honda has skidded 1.4% (Rs 6) to Rs 437. Bajaj Auto has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 3 at Rs 984.

SAIL has topped the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 93.10 lakh shares follwed by IDBI (69.16 lakh), Ispat Industries (45.80 lakh), Tata Motors (29.81 lakh) and Tisco (20.24 lakh).

Tata Motors tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 119.90 crore on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 94.99 crore), IDBI (Rs 62.88 crore), Tisco (Rs 58.40 crore) and Maruti (Rs 56.32 crore).

Sensex @ 1445 hrs

The Sensex is moving in range of 15-20 points, and is now down 35 points at 5,477. The Nifty is at 1,705 - down 13 points.

Infosys has moved down Rs 22 to Rs 1,617. Wipro has declined down Rs 4 to Rs 573, and Satyam has shed Rs 2 to Rs 369.

Reliance is up a rupee at Rs 496. ITC is down Rs 4 at Rs 1,134.  Dr.Reddy's has slipped over a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 740. While Ranbaxy is up Rs 4 at Rs 1,090, Cipla is up a rupee at Rs 283.

L&T is down a per cent at Rs 866.   Tata Power has tripped 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 304.  The BSE TECk, Auto and Metal indices are down a per cent each at 1,385, 2,327 and 4,867, respectively.

The BSE BANKEX, FMCG and PSU indices are also fast losing ground.  Wyeth has rallied nearly 5% (Rs 24) to Rs 528. Exide, GTL, ICI India, IDBI, Chennai Petro, GMDC, Jindal Steel, SKF India, Nicholas Pharma, ABB, Escorts, Kochi Refinery, Aurobindo Pharma, Gujarat Ind Power, Pidilite and Hexaware are up 1-4% each.

Federal Bank has slumped 6.5% (Rs 21) to Rs 301. SAIL, Novartis, Vijaya Bank, Sterlite Optical, TVS Motors, Century Textiles, National Fertilizers, GlaxoSmithKline Pharma, Syngenta, Aventis Pharma, Saw Pipes, ING Vysya Bank, Jaiprakash Associates, Jindal Stainless, Jindal Iron & Steel and Kotak Bank are down 2-3% each.

Sensex @ 1400 hrs

The Sensex has recovered from the day's lower levels but is still down 27 points at 5,485. The Nifty is at 1,707, down 11 points.

Infosys has recovered from the day's lower levels but is still down a per cent (Rs 15) at Rs 1,624. Wipro is down Rs 3 at Rs 574, and Satyam is down a rupee at Rs 370.

Reliance is up Rs 2 at Rs 497. ITC is down a rupee at Rs 1,137, HLL is unchanged at Rs 120.

Tata Motors is down 2.4% (Rs 10) at Rs 400. Maruti and Hero Honda also continue to rule weak at Rs 361 and Rs 437, respectively. Bajaj Auto is trading firm at Rs 992.

HDFC Bank is steady at Rs 406. ICICI Bank has erased most of its losses and is now down Rs 3 at Rs 293. SBI is down Rs 4 at Rs 469.

Tisco has slumped 1.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 285, and Hindalco is down Rs 5 at Rs 1,291.  Bharti Tele has declined nearly 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 141.

Sensex @ 1300 hrs

The Sensex has slipped to a new low of 5,475, and is now down 37 points at the same levels. The Nifty has declined 14 points to 1,704.

Infosys has declined 1.3% (Rs 21) to Rs 1,618. While Wipro is down Rs 4 at Rs 573, Satyam is down Rs 2 at Rs 369.

While Reliance is holding gains at Rs 498, ITC has slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 2 at Rs 1,136. HLL is marginally down at Rs 120.

Tata Motors has slupmed 3% (Rs 12) to Rs 397. Maruti and Hero Honda have declined 1.5% each at Rs 362 and Rs 436, respectively. Bajaj Auto, however, is still in positive zone and is up Rs 3 at Rs 990.  While HDFC Bank is up 1.6% (Rs 6) at Rs 405, ICICI Bank has declined over 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 289. SBI is down Rs 3 at Rs 470.

Hindalco has slipped Rs 6 to Rs 1,290, and Tisco is down Rs 4 at Rs 285.  L&T has crumbled over a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 865. ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are down Rs 2 each at Rs 265 and Rs 332, respectively. Grasim is down a rupee at Rs 1,125.

Tata Power has extended losses and is down 2.4% (Rs 7) at Rs 302.  Zee is down a per cent at Rs 150, and Bharti Tele has dropped 2.5% (Rs 4) at Rs 142.

The BSE TECk, Auto and Metal indices are down nearly a per cent each at 1,388, 2,327 and 4,885, respectively. The BSE Health Care index is sole one in positive zone at 2,584.

IDBI has topped the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 52 lakh shares so far. SAIL (41 lakh), Ispat Industries (31.03 lakh), Tata Motors (18.53 lakh) and Reliance (12.10 lakh) have also logged good volume.

Tata Motors tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 75.08 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by Reliance (Rs 60.74 crore), IDBI (Rs 47.52 crore), Maruti (Rs 35.38 crore) and Tisco (30.22 crore).

Sensex @ 1200 hrs

The Sensex is moving a very narrow range as the NSE is closed for trading till 12.05pm. The index is now down 14 points at 5,498. The Nifty is at 1,712 - down six points.

Infosys and Wipro have shed a per cent each to Rs 1,622 and Rs 572, respectively. Satyam, however, is unchanged at Rs 371.

ITC is up Rs 6 at Rs 1,144. Reliance has moved up Rs 4 to Rs 499.

Tata Motors has tumbled over 2% (Rs 10) to Rs 400. Maruti has slipped 1.5% (Rs 5) to Rs 362, and Hero Honda is down Rs 3 at Rs 440. Bajaj Auto, however, is in positive zone with a gain of Rs 6 at Rs 993.

While HDFC Bank is up 1.8% (Rs 7) to Rs 405, ICICI Bank is down 1.7% (Rs 5) to Rs 290. SBI is up a rupee at Rs 474.

HPCL and ONGC have declined Rs 4 each to Rs 316 and Rs 738, respectively.

HDFC is up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 612.

Tata Power has dropped 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 304.

Zee is up a rupee at Rs 152, and Bharti Tele has tumbled 2.5% (Rs 4) to Rs 142.

While the BSE Healthcare index is hovering in positive zone with a marginal gain at 2,594, the BSE TECk and Auto indices are on slippery ground at 1,390 and 2,336, respectively.

ICI India has zoomed over 5% (Rs 10) to Rs 186. IDBI, SKF India, Thermax, Maharashtra Seamless, GMDC, Bongaigaon Refinery, Chennai Petro, Ispat Industries, Gujarat Narmada, ABB, Tata Chemicals, Gujarat Ind Power, Kochi Refinery, Aurobindo Pharma, IDBI Bank and Cummins rallied 1-3% each.

Federal Bank has nose-dived 5.5% (Rs 18) to Rs 304. Novartis, Indian Rayon, Sterlite Industries, Crompton Greaves, United Phosphorous, Century Textiles, Tata Infotech, Raymond, JB Chemicals, Indian Hotels, IOC, Jaiprakash Associates and TVS Motors are down 1-2% each.

Sensex @1047 hrs:

The Sensex touched an new intra-day high of 5,518, and is now unchanged at 5,512. The Nifty is at 1,715 - down three points.

Infosys is down Rs 10 at Rs 1,629. While Wipro is down Rs 2 at Rs 575, Satyam has rebounded into positive zone and is up a rupee at Rs 372.

ITC has rallied a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 1,148. Reliance has gained Rs 3 at Rs 499. HLL, however, is almost flat at Rs 120.

HDFC Bank has rallied over 2% (Rs 9) to Rs 407. SBI is up a rupee at Rs 475, and ICICI Bank is down Rs 2 at Rs 293.

HPCL and ONGC are down Rs 2 each at Rs 318 and Rs 739, respectively.

HDFC has advanced a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 613.

Auto stocks are exhibiting a mixed trend. Bajaj Auto has rallied over  a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 998, and Hero Honda is unchanged at Rs 443. While Tata Motors has declined 1.5% (Rs 6) to Rs 403, Maruti is down Rs 2 at Rs 365.

Tata Power has declined a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 307.

While Zee is up Rs 2 at Rs 153, Bharti Tele is down Rs 2 at Rs 144.

Sensex @1010 hrs:

The Sensex opened five points lower at 5,507, it slipped to a low of 5,495, and soon rebounded to a high of 5,515.

The index has slipped back into negaive zone and is now down eight points at 5,504. The Nifty is at 1,714 - down four points.

Infosys is down Rs 10 at Rs 1,629. While Wipro has declined Rs 4 at Rs 573, Satyam has shed a rupee at Rs 370.

ITC is down a rupee at Rs 1,137. HLL and Reliance are trading flat at Rs 120 and Rs 496, respectively.

HDFC Bank has rallied 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 406. Tata Motors is down 1.5% (Rs 6) to Rs 403.
