Outsourcing is a concern in US: Mulford

September 16, 2004 11:36 IST

Outsourcing has led to joblessness in the United States and is a reason for concern, but it is a natural part of the evolving global economy, according to US Ambassador to India, David C Mulford.

"The issue of outsourcing in the US was much dramatised and was part of a political football earlier, as America is facing elections this year," Mulford said at a meeting of Boston University Alumni Association of India in Mumbai on Wednesday.

However, there is a shift in scenario with the country seeking ways to retain jobs and people in that country, apart from instilling confidence in its citizens.

To a question whether the issue would settle down after the elections in November, the Ambassador said, "Kerry (John Kerry) has to adjust his visions, which would take a little time."

Allaying fears that bilateral relations between the two countries would lose momentum as US prepares for its presidential elections, he said, "let there be no doubt -- the US commitment to this bilateral relationship is deep and growing. And if the past is any guide, the commitment to India seems bipartisan as well".
