Mphasis plans BPO centre in Mangalore

October 13, 2004 17:55 IST

IT & BPO company Mphasis on Wednesday said it will set up its third Indian BPO centre in Mangalore which will become operational in the next fiscal and will look at acquisitions in the IT services space in the United Kingdom.

"We will set up our third BPO centre in India in Mangalore with the capacity of 2000 people. The centre will be operational in the next fiscal," Jerry Rao, CMD, Mphasis said.

He said the company at present has 5000 people in BPO and has centres in Pune, Bangalore and Mexico.

Rao said, the company which has 40 per cent of its revenue coming from BPO, is looking at both the American and Indian market for acquisitions.

"But for our IT services, we want to have a presence in the strategic UK market and there we are eyeing acquisitions," Rao said, adding the company acquired Bangalore-based Kshema Technologies earlier and the integration of both the companies was now complete.

"At any point of time, we are evaluating half a dozen companies, but not zeroed in on any," he said.

Rao said the company would hire 200 professionals in the current quarter.

Mphasis' net profits increased to Rs 31.51 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2004, compared to a net profit of Rs 25.46 crore in the last year's quarter, but failed to meet market expectations.
