Tata Motors May sales up 36%

Tata Motors reported a 35.8 per cent growth in its May sales at 29,774 vehicles, including exports, as compared to 21,928 units sold in the same period last year.

The company exported 1,651 vehicles last month as compared to 1,258 vehicles last May.

The sale of commercial vehicles for May 2004 in the domestic market stood at 14,391 units, a 47.5 per cent rise over 9,754 units sold in May last year, a Tata Motors release said on Monday.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicles sale grew by 58.1 per cent at 10,051 units while light commercial vehicles were up by 27.7 per cent over the corresponding period, it said.

The passenger vehicle business reported a 25.8 per cent growth at 13,732 units last month.

The cumulative sales of commercial vehicles for 2004-05 stood at 26,432 units, an increase of 57.4 per cent over 16,791 units in the same period last year, while for passenger cars it was 25,704 units, up by 36.4 per cent.

Indica registered a 24.97 rise in sales at 8,463 units (6,772 units last year May) while Indigo sales were up by 52.59 units (1,983 units), the release added.
