IT sector adds over 1-lakh jobs in FY04

The Indian information technology industry added more than 100,000 jobs in 2003-04, taking the total employees in the sector to 810,000, according to the National Association of Software and Service Companies.

"In FY04, the ITeS BPO industry added 65,000 jobs while in the software and services sector 40,000 jobs were created," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said in New Delhi.

He said the Indian IT companies were more aggressive in hiring than the multinational firms.

Karnik said in 2004-05, the growth of jobs in the IT sector would be in line with the industry growth.
