New judge to hear Birla case

July 27, 2004 20:02 IST

The case relating to the disputed will of Priyamvada Birla was on Tuesday assigned to the court of Justice Kalyanjyoti Sengupta and its date of hearing would be announced soon.

Acting Chief Justice Ajoy Nath Roy assigned the matter to court no-7 after it was released by Justice S K Mukherjee.

Justice Mukherjee had on Monday declined to hear the case on personal grounds and had referred it back to Acting Chief Justice for re-assignment.

The case relates to the petition filed by Rajendra S Lodha challenging caveats by four prominent Birla family members in the matter relating to the purported will of Priyamvada Birla by which Lodha was bequeathed the assets of M P Birla group worth over Rs 5,000 crore.
