January 29, 2004 18:39 IST

Hero Honda Motors on Thursday launched a restyled version of the 135cc motorcycle Ambition to further boost sales in the premium motorcycle segment.

The new model would be available in four options -- drum brakes with kickstart, drum and self-start, disc brakes with kickstart, and disc with self-start -- which have been priced at Rs 44,977, Rs 47,974, Rs 47,974 and Rs 50,798 (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.

Hero Honda, the country's largest motorcycle maker, is 26 per cent owned each by the Munjals-family-promoted Hero Group and Japan's Honda Motor Co.

The Ambition, which was first launched in September 2002, would be produced at Hero Honda's plant in Gurgaon (Haryana).

The company's chairman Brijmohan Lall said the new model had been launched for customers who wanted a combination of style and power with fuel efficiency.

This was Hero Honda's fifth model this year and is expected to further increase its presence in the premium segment after establishing a leadership in entry-level and executive segments, managing director Pawan Munjal said in New Delhi.

Hero Honda also manufactures CD-Dawn, CD-100SS, Dawn, Splendor+, Passion Plus, CBZ and Karizma.

During April-December 2003, its sales grew 15 per cent to 1.47 million units.
