January 29, 2004 16:06 IST

Tenneco Automotive, a leading United States-based supplier of emissions and ride control systems, will source from its Chennai centre information technology, human resources, engineering and financial services for its global needs.

The company on Thursday commissioned its 'shared services centre' in Chennai with a view to use this facility as a base to support the global needs of Tenneco Automotive.

Bill Haser, vice president and chief information officer of the company, said that Chennai had been selected in view of the availability of right skills and facilities.

Financial services outsourcing from the Chennai centre would commence from this year, he said, adding that the company had a pilot centre in the city since last year.

The company presently supplies its products to Indian vehicle majors like Maruti, Ashok Leyland, Volvo, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors from its manufacturing facilities in Gurgaon, Hosur, Pondicherry and Pune.
