Tata Motors Dec sales up 67.3%

Tata Motors Ltd sold and exported 26,253 vehicles during December 2003, a growth of 67.3 per cent over 15,695 vehicles sold during the same month a year ago.

Sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market rose 54 per cent to 15,007 units during December 2003, compared with 9,742 units sold a year ago, a Tata Motors press release said on Monday.

Indica sales grew 3.4 per cent to 3,554 units last month and recorded 10.2 per cent growth at 56,624 vehicles in the first nine months of the year while Indigo registered sales of 1,755 for December and cumulative sales for 19,593 units for the fiscal.

Since its launch in December 2002 till December 2003, Indigo registered sales of 25,976 units, becoming the largest selling sedan, the release said.

The company's medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales rose 55.3 per cent to 10,705 units, as against 6,895 units sold in December 2002, it said.

The light commercial vehicle sales during the month rose 51.1 per cent to 4,302 units, compared with 2,847 LCVs sold in the same month of the previous year.  

The company recorded 33.7 per cent increase in total sale of passenger vehicles in the domestic market at 7,245 units in December 2003, it added.
