LPG, kerosene subsidy to end by 2007

December 03, 2004 12:50 IST

The government will phase out subsidies on LPG and kerosene by 2007, petroleum secretary S C Tripathi said on Friday.

At the third India Petro 2004 conference, he said: "It is the government's stated intention to remove subsidies by 2007 and we are working towards that."

He said a Bill for setting up an independent regulator for the oil sector has been referred to a Group of Ministers and so the Bill will not be presented in Parliament during the current session.
