Cable operators call off strike

August 18, 2004 19:38 IST

Cable operators on Wednesday announced suspension of their strike from 2000 hours this evening in view of the Olympic Games.

Virendra Gaur of the All India Cable TV Forum, a group of major multi service operators, announced the suspension of the strike.

Gaur said the decision to suspend the strike was taken at a meeting of the forum in view of the Olympic Games.

He, however, made it clear that if the government continued with its plans to bring the MSOs under the service tax net, they would again resort to a country-wide strike after the Olympic Games.

Gaur said the cable operators and MSOs felt sad when they read in newspapers that the family of Olympic silver medal winner Rajya Vardhan Singh Rathore could not see the feat achieved by the ace shooter.

The disappointment of the Rathore family forced the cable operators to suspend the strike till Olympic was over, he said.
