BSNL likely to cut cell tariffs

Devidutta Tripathy in New Delhi | August 17, 2004 09:43 IST

State-owned telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is likely to slash cellular tariffs, in a move to counter the new tariff plan unveiled by Reliance Infocomm last week.

"We are examining the situation. We will at least try to match their offering," a senior BSNL official told Business Standard. He did not give any details about the reduction in tariffs.

BSNL will add another 4 million GSM (Global System for Mobiles) connections by October this year. Of this, 3 million lines would be ready by September, the official said.
