April 29, 2004 19:00 IST

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Thursday said it was looking at fresh initiatives for accelerating the mobile telephony growth in India from the existing level of 2-million subscriber addition every month.

"We want to increase the new subscriber addition to 3 million per month or higher from the existing 2 million. For this, fresh initiatives are required and we may come out with these in the next 15 days," D P S Seth, member, Trai, said.

Declining to give specific details of the initiatives, Seth said, "We are working on it."

Sources said that Trai might suggest some fresh incentives for the industry to lower the prices of services further.
