No hike in petro prices: Naik

April 20, 2004 18:35 IST

Union Petroleum Minister Ram Naik on Tuesday scotched reports in a section of media about hike in prices of petroleum products after the General Election.

"The news that petroleum product prices will be hiked after elections is baseless and speculative," Naik told reporters at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Mumbai.

The "news" is issued in a section of media with "ulterior motive" and is a classic case of "misinformation", the Union minister said.

Naik, who is contesting on a BJP ticket from Mumbai North parliamentary constituency, said there is no proposal before the Union Cabinet at present about hiking the prices of petroleum products.
