Leela Group plans beach resort at Bekal in Kerala

Leela Group has tied-up with Singapore-based Amman Resorts to build an up-market beach resort at Bekal in Kasargod district of Kerala, vice-chairman and managing director of the group, Vivek Nair, said on Friday.

"Amman Resorts in the far east are one of the finest resort chains commanding a rate of $650 (Rs 32,000) per night. It will have a different guest list like film stars and aristocrats," Nair said in his keynote address on Hospitality and Tourism at the CII National Service Sector Conclave in Bangalore.

The World Tourism Promotion Organisation had identified the project two decades ago and 15 years after the Kerala government decided on building a resort, he said, adding that the Leela group has ventured in building the resort complex.

"The work would begin in about three months and about Rs 65 crore (Rs 650 million) would be invested on the resort," Nair said, adding that this was the first project of Amman Resorts in India.

Nair said the group was expecting to touch a revenue of Rs 105 crore (Rs 1.05 billion) during 2003-04.
