Pvt WLL base at 39.12 lakh in Aug

The limited mobility subscriber base of private basic operators rose to 39.12 lakh (3.91 million) in August 2003, with the Reliance Group claiming the largest chunk of 35.4 lakh (3.54 million) users.

The limited mobile base of private operators in the country increased to 39.12 lakh this August from 32.3 lakh (3.23 million) in the previous month, according to the latest subscriber figures released by the Association of Basic Telecom Operators in New Delhi.

Of this, Reliance claimed 35.40 lakh users during the period, up from 29.14 lakh users (2.91 million) in July.

The WLL base of another operator Tata Teleservices rose to 315,000 in August from 259,000 in July.

The WLL subscriber base of MTNL would be about 125,000 while that of BSNL would be about 600,000, ABTO said.

The total subscriber base of Bharti (wireline and WLL-fixed) touched 468,000 in August, while the total customer base of HFCL Infotel and Shyam Telelink was at 112,000 and 95,129 respectively.

If clubbed together, the private wireline, wireless-fixed and wireless-mobility services accounted for 51.95 lakh (5.19 million) users in August, as compared to 44 lakh (4.4 million) in the previous month.
