Tata Motors Aug sales up 37%

Tata Motors has reported a 37 per cent rise in sales, including exports, at 24,831 vehicles in August compared with the same period last year.

Cumulative sales were up by 43 per cent for the period April-August 2003 at 1,10,219 units as against 77,027 vehicles last year, a company release said in Mumbai on Thurday.

The passenger car business reported a total sale of 11,675 units last month, a growth of 23.5 per cent over the same period last year. Indica and Indigo registered sales of 7,020 and 2,362 units respectively.

Utility vehicle sales at 2,293 units grew 12 per cent over August sales last year, it added.

The company's exports for the month were 1,166 units as against 846 units last year.

The sale of commercial vehicles grew by 53.5 per cent last month at 11,990 units as against 7,812 numbers in August last year, the release added.

During the first five months of this fiscal, sales of Indica' jumped by 16 per cent to 32,364 units over the year ago period.

The Indigo notched 10,797 units while UV sales increased by 15 per cent to 10,886 units during the April-August period this year.
