India and China on Friday decided to intensify further their bilateral economic cooperation and speed up the implementation of the agreements signed during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's historic visit in Beijing in June.

This and other issues of common interest were discussed when Union Commerce and Industry Minister Arun Jaitely called on Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi in Beijing on Friday, official sources said.

Jaitely, who visited Beijing to inaugurate the biggest-ever 'Made in India' industrial exposition, had a 45-minute meeting with the senior Chinese leader, who oversees the communist nation's commercial and business interests.

"The two sides took note of the commitments made at the highest level and its implementation," one official said, adding that ways to increase the volume of trade and investment between India and China were discussed at the meeting, which was held at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing.

Wu, a member of the politburo central committee of the ruling communist party, noted that China has submitted its list of members of the Joint Study Group, which was proposed during Vajpayee's visit.

Jaitley said the Indian side would soon nominate its team that will jointly examine the potential complementarities and also draw up a programme for the development of Indo-China trade and economic cooperation for the next five years.
