Sensex gives up gains, up 2 points at 4633

The last hour of trading session saw the Sensex erase most of its gains on weakness in select stocks, and finally finish with a small gain of two points at 4,633.

The Sensex opened 14 points higher at 4,645, but early volatility in mid-morning deals saw it slip to a low of 4,601.

The market bounced back sharply as the old-economy stocks led recovery saw the index remain firm till mid-noon deals, and spurt to a high of 4,688.

The Nifty, however, after remaining firm for better part of the trading session, ended down a point at 1,478.

While 16 Sensex stocks advanced, 14 declined today. The volume and value of shares traded were higher at 3.33 crore and Rs 1,113.03, respectively.

HPCL traded off-highs, but ended 2% higher (Rs 6) at Rs 358 on decent buying support. BHEL closed up a tad at Rs 421. SBI, however, lost 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 456.

ICICI Bank, which zoomed 9% on the US markets yesterday, fared well on the BSE, and rose 7% (Rs 16) to Rs 228 on sustained buying support.

Tisco (up Rs 12 or 4% to Rs 303) and Castrol (up Rs 6 or 3% to Rs 201) also raked in good gains on strong buying support.

Hindalco, however, lost ground towards the closing hours, and declined 2% (Rs 20) to Rs 964. Zee also ended with a loss of Rs 2 at Rs 131.

ITC, after displaying mixed trends, finally ended with a loss of Rs 4 at Rs 836. Reliance and HLL also ended on a subdued note at Rs 451 (down Rs 6) and Rs 190 (down a rupee), respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja advanced 4% (Rs 10) to Rs 243. While L&T jumped 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 355, Grasim and ACC closed up a tad each at Rs 680 and Rs 211, respectively.

Bajaj ended with a loss of Rs 4 at Rs 854. Hero Honda also remained weak through the session, and dipped 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 326. Telco, however, ended in the gainers list at Rs 347 - up Rs 4.

Infosys at Rs 4,456 (down Rs 105 or 2%), HCL Tech at Rs 182 (down Rs 3 or 2%) and Satyam at Rs 256 (down a rupee) witnessed heavy selling pressure and ended with losses.

Glaxo firmed up towards the closing hours, and soared nearly 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 468. Ranbaxy traded off-highs to finish with a gain of Rs 7 at Rs 981. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla ended with modest gains at Rs 1,108 and Rs 1,045, respectively.

BPCL dropped 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 366. While IOC slumped 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 387, ONGC was down a per cent (Rs 9) at Rs 624. IBP, however, slipped from a high of Rs 890, and ended 2% higher (Rs 15) at Rs 861.

Other PSU stocks attracted considerable buying interest. Hind Zinc shot up 9% (Rs 6) to Rs 72. Dredging Corporation and STC scaled up 8% to Rs 431 (up Rs 32) and Rs 136 (up Rs 11), respectively. BEL closed up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 508. EIL, however, incurred losses, and declined 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 371.

Wipro slipped from a high of Rs 1,271 and ended marginally lower at Rs 1,232. While Hexaware shed 7% (Rs 22) to Rs 306, Moser Baer dipped 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 387.

Mastek declined 2% (Rs 5) to Rs 257. Digital, Mphasis and Hughes were down a per cent each at Rs 539 (down Rs 5), Rs 501 (down Rs 3) and Rs 392 (down Rs 4), respectively.

HCL Infosys, however, advanced 7% (Rs 23) to Rs 365.

Sensex @ 1545

After a firm mid-afternoon session, the index has pared gains, as select old and new economy stocks have either curbed their gains on profit-taking or have slipped into negative territory. The Sensex is now up 16 points at 4,647.

The Nifty, too, has shed gains to a considerable extent, and is now up 3 points at 1,482.

HPCL has curbed its gains on profit-taking, and is now up 2% (Rs 7) at Rs 359. BHEL is still trading with marginal gains at Rs 421. SBI, however, is still languishing in negative territory at Rs 459 - down Rs 6.

ICICI Bank (up Rs 13 or 6% to Rs 225), Tisco (up Rs 14 or 5% to Rs 306) and Castrol (up Rs 7 or 3% to Rs 202) have remained firm on sustained buying support. Hindalco, however, has dipped Rs 13 to Rs 971.

ITC is up a rupee at Rs 841. While Reliance has lost Rs 6 to Rs 452, HLL still remains weak at Rs 190.

Gujarat Ambuja has raked in 3% gains (Rs 7) to Rs 240. While Grasim has added Rs 4 to Rs 684, ACC is up a rupee at Rs 212. L&T is up a tad at Rs 349.

Glaxo has stepped up its gains on fresh buying support, and has moved up a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 459. Ranbaxy is trading off-highs on selling pressure to Rs 987 - up Rs 13. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are up with steady gains at Rs 1,113 (up Rs 8) and Rs 1,046 (up Rs 2), respectively.

Bajaj at Rs 855 (down Rs 3) and Hero Honda at Rs 325 (down Rs 7) continue to display negative trends. Telco, however, is still holding on to its gains at Rs 350 - up Rs 8 or 2%.

Infosys on sustained selling pressure has lost a per cent (Rs 41) to Rs 4,520. HCL Tech has shed a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 183. Satyam, however, is trading marginally higher at Rs 258.

Sensex @ 1500

The overall mood in the market is positive as broad-based buying in select old and new economy stocks has seen the Sensex gain further ground, and is now up 44 points at 4,675. The Nifty has added 16 points to 1,495.

HPCL has logged 3% gains (Rs 12) to Rs 365. BHEL, after a steady trading session till eary noon deals, is now up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 423. SBI and MTNL, however, are down a rupee each at Rs 464 and Rs 118, respectively.

ICICI Bank continues to rally sharply on relentless buying support, and has spurted 9% (Rs 18) to Rs 230. Tisco also is trading on a buoyant note with a gain of 5% (Rs 16) at Rs 307.

ITC is trading with steady gains at Rs 846 - up Rs 6. Reliance and HLL are still trading at lower levels at Rs 455 (down Rs 2) and Rs 190 (down a rupee), respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja and Grasim, on fresh buying support, have advanced 4% (Rs 9) to Rs 242 and 2% (Rs 11) to Rs 691, respectively. While L&T has moved up Rs 5 to Rs 354, ACC has added Rs 4 to Rs 214.

Ranbaxy is unchanged with a gain of 2% (Rs 22) at Rs 996. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are trading with modest gains at Rs 1,120 (up Rs 12) and Rs 1,047 (up Rs 3), respectively. Glaxo is up a rupee at Rs 454.

Infosys is up a notch at Rs 4,569. While Satyam has inched up by Rs 3 to Rs 261, HCL Tech continues to trade in the red at Rs 184 - down Rs 2.

Hero Honda is still trading lower by Rs 4 at Rs 328. Bajaj is now trading down a rupee at Rs 856. Telco, however, has scaled up 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 353.

Sensex @ 1330

The markets continue its upward trend in early afternoon deals as renewed buying in select old and new economy stocks has pushed the index further up. The Sensex is now up 42 points at 4,673.

The Nifty has moved up 15 points to 1,494.

HPCL has gained 3% (Rs 11) at Rs 363. BHEL is unchanged with a rupee gain at Rs 421. SBI, however, is marginally down at Rs 464.

ITC is trading at higher levels at Rs 849 - up Rs 9. Reliance has pared its losses on buying support, and is now down a rupee at Rs 457. HLL is still trading marginally lower at Rs 191.

ICICI Bank has upped its gains on fresh buying support to Rs 225 - up Rs 13 or 6%. Tisco, on renewed buying support, has notched up 5% gains (Rs 14) to Rs 306. While Castrol has surged 4% or Rs 8 to Rs 203, Zee is up a rupee at Rs 133.

Ranbaxy is trading firm with a gain of 2% (Rs 24) at Rs 997. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla have gained a per cent each to Rs 1,123 (up Rs 15) and Rs 1,051 (up Rs 7), respectively. Glaxo, however, is down a notch at Rs 452.

Grasim has added Rs 4 to Rs 684. L&T and Gujarat Ambuja are up Rs 2 each at Rs 351 and Rs 235, respectively. ACC is trading with marginal gains at Rs 212.

Infosys is up a per cent (Rs 24) at Rs 4,585. Satyam also is trading with modest gains at Rs 260 - up Rs 2.

Bajaj at Rs 854 and Hero Honda at Rs 328 -- are down Rs 4 each. Telco, however, has scaled up by 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 349 on further buying support.

Select PSU stocks have gained ground on sustained buying support. Dredging Corporation has spurted 14% (Rs 55) to Rs 453. While Hind Zinc has soared 10% (Rs 7) to Rs 73, STC has gained 8% (Rs 10) to Rs 135. Sail has advanced 6% (Rs 2) to Rs 42, while Nalco has added 5% (Rs 6) to Rs 138.

EIL, however, is down 2% (Rs 9) to Rs 372.

Sensex@1210 hrs

The market, after displaying volatility in the mid-morning trades, is holding on to its gains in early noon deals on stock-specific activity. The Sensex is now up 20 points at 4,651.

The Nifty has added 7 points to 1,486.

HPCL continues to trade firm on strong buying support, and is now up 3% (Rs 11) at Rs 363. BHEL is up a rupee at Rs 421. SBI, however, is still trading lower by Rs 4 at Rs 461.

ICICI Bank has clocked 4% gains (Rs 9) to Rs 221. While Castrol has notched up 5% gains (Rs 10) to Rs 205, Tisco has gained 2% (Rs 5) to Rs 297. Hindalco at Rs 993 (up Rs 9) has gained ground since the opening trades.

ITC has moved up a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 852. Reliance and HLL, however, are still languishing in the negative territory at Rs 453 (down Rs 5) and Rs 191 (down a rupee), respectively.

Ranbaxy has attracted buying support, and has advanced nearly 3% (Rs 26) to Rs 1,000. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are trading with gains at Rs 1,122 (up Rs 14) and Rs 1,050 (up Rs 6), respectively. Glaxo is marginally up at Rs 452.

Grasim has lost Rs 3 to Rs 677. While L&T has dipped Rs 2 to Rs 347, ACC is down a notch at Rs 211. Gujarat Ambuja, however, is trading marginally higher at Rs 234.

Bajaj has trimmed its losses on buying support, and is now down Rs 4 at Rs 854. Hero Honda is subdued with a loss of Rs 3 at Rs 328. Telco, however, is trading with gains of Rs 5 at Rs 347.

Sensex@1115 hrs

The markets is witnessing volatility in mid-morning deals as the index slipped from higher levels to touch a low of 4,601, and rebounded back into the positive zone on stock-specific activity in old and new economy stocks. The Sensex is now up 14 points at 4,645.

The Nifty, too, has bounced from its lows, and is now up 5 points at 1,484.

HPCL is holding on to its gains at Rs 361 - up Rs 9 or 2%. While SBI has lost 5 to Rs 459, BHEL is down a tad at Rs 420.

ICICI Bank has gained 4% (Rs 8) to Rs 220. Hindalco is trading with a per cent gain (Rs 7) at Rs 991. Tisco and Zee are trading with gains at Rs 295 (up Rs 3) and Rs 133 (up a rupee), respectively. BSES, however, has dropped 3% (Rs 12) to Rs 397.

Reliance and HLL have drifted into the negative territory on profit-taking at Rs 452 (down Rs 6) and Rs 190 (down a rupee), respectively. ITC, however, has added Rs 10 at Rs 850.

ACC has slipped into the red with a rupee loss at Rs 209. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja, too, have slipped from higher levels at Rs 675 and Rs 232, respectively. L&T has dipped Rs 4 to Rs 345.

Bajaj has shed Rs 13 to Rs 845. Hero Honda is also trading with losses at Rs 327 - down Rs 5. Telco, however, has gained Rs 5 to Rs 347.

Infosys at Rs 4,548 (down Rs 13), HCL Tech at Rs 184 (down Rs 2) and Satyam at Rs 257 (down a rupee) have lost ground after a positive opening.

Sensex@1010 hrs

The Sensex opened 14 points higher at 4,645, and spurted to a high of 4,672 on buying particularly in old economy stocks. It is now up 37 points at 4,668.

The Nifty has also commenced on a firm note, and is now up 11 points at 1,490.

HPCL, after a lacklustre closing on Monday, has opened firm with a gain of 3% (Rs 11) at Rs 363. SBI and BHEL are trading with marginal gains of Rs 2 each at Rs 466 and Rs 422, respectively.

ICICI Bank has spurted nearly 5% (Rs 10) to Rs 222. Hindalco has logged nearly 2% gains (Rs 14) to Rs 998 in opening deals.

ITC has gained Rs 7 to Rs 847. While Reliance is up Rs 2 at Rs 460, HLL is up a tad at Rs 192.

Grasim has gained a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 685. Gujarat Ambuja and ACC have added Rs 3 each to Rs 236 and Rs 214, respectively. L&T, however, is trading with losses at Rs 347 - down Rs 2.

Infosys has commenced on a positive note with a gain of Rs 26 at Rs 4,587. Satyam and HCL Tech are trading with steady gains at Rs 260 (up Rs 2) and Rs 187 (up a rupee), respectively.
