Reliance WLL base at 47.54 lakh

The wireless-in-local-loop subscriber base of private basic operators increased to 52.45 lakh (5.25 million) in October against 46.18 lakh (4.62 million) in September, with Reliance accounting for a lion's share of 47.54 lakh (4.75 million) customers.

The total subscriber base of private basic operators was pegged at 69.02 lakh (6.90 million) in October, which included 52.45 lakh (5.24 million) WLL mobility connections, 683,000 WLL fixed and 973,000 wireline customers, according to latest subscriber data by Association of Basic Telecom Operators.

Reliance, which operates WLL services across 17 circles including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Harayana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, ended the month with 47.54 lakh (4.75 million) subscribers, up from 41.82 lakh (4.18 million) in September.

Bharti Telenet, which does not offer WLL mobility services raised its subscriber base to 523,000 during October. Of this, 495,000 users belonged to fixed line and the balance to WLL fixed services.

Tata Teleservices, which has operations across six circles including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra had 11.95 lakh (1.19 million) users as on October 2003, including 435,000 WLL (m) subscribers.

The total subscriber base of HFCL Infotel and Shyam Telelink stood at 124,000 and 103,000 respectively.
