The central bank deputy governor Vepa Kamesam's two-year term has been extended by three months, to September, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Kamesam, who looks after the exchange control department and spearheads the information technology upgradation plan in the Reserve Bank of India, was due to retire in the last week of June.

"His tenure has been extended up to September 23, 2003," the spokeswoman said.

Last week, the government appointed K J Udeshi as the central bank's third deputy governor. The other deputy governor is Rakesh Mohan who heads the key monetary policy department.
