Stock picks for July 9

Hemen Kapadia/ Morpheus Inc | July 08, 2003 23:11 IST

The market has remained relatively range bound but has ended is positive territory. Banks, capital goods, consumer durables, pharma and PSUs all remained under pressure while FMCG ended positive. But it was the IT sector that was the biggest gainer of the day.

Volume was sharply higher (read as turnover) while the undertone was mixed.

Sensex -- Last Close: 3629.68 | Support: 3545, 3467 | Resistance: 3651, 3759

Trading Range -- The Sensex opened at 3628.02, moved up to an intra-day high of 3645.64, declined to an intra-day low of 3623.02 and closed at 3629.68.

Review/Outlook -- The Sensex has formed a rather small intra-day trading range to remain lacklustre on higher volume. It seems to be getting slightly heavy at current levels while a cautious approach is advocated.

Bharat Forge -- Last Close: 369.95 | Support: 352, 332 | Resistance: 375, 400

Trading Range -- The scrip opened at 360.00, moved up to an intra-day high of 373.50, declined to an intra-day low of 356.00 and closed at 369.95.

Review/Outlook -- The scrip has reflected strength by posting an all time high and with the oscillators looking strong, a further upside seems possible.

Punjab Tractor -- Last Close: 167.80 | Support: 165, 145 | Resistance: 187, 204

Trading Range -- The scrip opened at 171.60, moved up to an intra-day high of 173.00, declined to an intra-day low of 167.50 and closed at 167.80.

Review/Outlook -- The scrip reflected weakness by closing below a demand line and with the oscillators signalling a sell, a further downside cannot be ruled out.

SBI -- Last Close: 384.35 | Support: 380, 358 | Resistance: 415, 450

Trading Range -- The scrip opened at 390.00, moved up to an intra-day high of 391.80, declined to an intra-day low of 383.50 and closed at 384.35.

Review/Outlook -- The scrip has given a downward "bar" reversal (bearish intra-day pattern) and with the oscillators looking negative, further depreciation seems to be on the cards.

TV18 -- Last Close: 105.20 | Support: 99, 89 | Resistance: 107, 122

Trading Range -- The scrip opened at 101.60, moved up to an intra-day high of 106.50, declined to an intra-day low of 98.30 and closed at 105.20.

Review/Outlook -- The scrip has reflected strength by posting a 14 month high and with the indicators looking firm, a further upside seems to be on the cards.
