Bajaj Auto Ltd has posted a 19.2 per cent increase in motorcycle sales at 82,239 units in June 2003, compared to 68,965 units sold in the same period last year.

The total two and three wheelers sales were higher by 3.3 per cent at 1,20,996 units (1,17,094 units) during the period under review, BAL said in a release on Tuesday.

The company has recorded a marginal increase in the two-wheeler sales at 1,03,105 units (1,01,969 units) while that of three wheelers rose by 18.3 per cent at 17,891 units (15,125 units).

The market response for GC 1000 - the company's latest pay-load goods carrier - has been positive and BAL was expecting sales of 1,500 units per month for this model in the near future, it added.

The exports of two and three wheelers stood at 11,792 units (6,461 units), registering an 82.5 per cent increase in June.

The exports include 6,000 motorcycles and 5,400 three wheelers, the company said.

Kawasaki's 125 cc "World Bike" went into commercial production during June at the Aurangabad plant and the market launch was scheduled for this month, it added.

As part of its focused efforts in plants and supply chain, the company has reduced its dealer receivables from over 10 days sales to three days in the first quarter and was moving towards its target of "zero" credit.

BAL was replacing about 50 out of its 430 current dealers and the program to weed out non and low performing dealerships was under implementation, it added.
