Sensex gains 53 points at close

The bull run continued for the second consecutive day on strong buying support in heavyweights, PSUs, techs and other select old and new economy stocks. The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 53 points at 4,205. The Nifty also ended 21 points higher at 1,340.

Heavyweights, PSUs and tech stocks remained firm and contributed to the gains of the Sensex.

ITC remained buoyant on sustained buying support, and moved up 2% (Rs 16) at Rs 809. While Reliance added Rs 2 to Rs 393, HLL closed up a rupee at Rs 190.

SBI registered further gains towards the end, and spurted 4% (Rs 18) at Rs 455. HPCL logged nearly 3% gains (Rs 10) to close at Rs 397. BHEL mopped up huge gains in the early afternoon deals, and was up 4% (Rs 15) at Rs 353. MTNL, however, ended on a subdued note with a loss of Rs 2 at Rs 127.

Infosys traded with steady gains till the early noon deals, but gained futher ground towards the closing hours to finish with a gain of 3% (Rs 115) at Rs 3,852. More than 2.68 lakh shares were traded on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 101 crore. Satyam appreciated by 5% (Rs 10) to close at Rs 218. HCL Tech traded in positive zone through the session, and moved up nearly 3% (Rs 5) at Rs 172.
