Tablet PC to be launched in India in Dec: Gates

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said on Tuesday that Tablet PC, an advanced wireless computing device mixing the functionality of a laptop and personal digital assistant, would be launched in India next month in collaboration with local partners.

Since it is a wireless instrument, it will work using radio frequencies as in the case of radio transistors and cellphones. Spectrum allocation is the prerogative of the central government.

Sources said Microsoft, which developed this technology, would license the technology and software to its hardware partners across the globe, for commercial manufacturing.

The tablet PC was launched in the US and a few other markets on November 7.
