Coca-Cola plant in Bihar attacked

Unidentified men lobbed four explosive devices at a Coca-Cola plant in crime-plagued Bihar but no one was injured, a spokesman for Coca-Cola's Indian unit said on Monday.

Two of the four devices exploded but there was no damage to the bottling plant in the state capital, Patna, the spokesman for the Atlanta-based soft drinks giant told Reuters. He said the plant was operating normally on Monday.

"Four unidentified men came up and lobbed four devices at the plant. Two of those devices went off. We don't know what they were exactly, they may have been crackers," he said. "No one was injured. There was no damage to the plant."

Local police were investigating the incident which occurred on Sunday.

The plant employs 400 people and was set up with an investment of Rs 300 million ($6.12 million).

This is the second attack on a Coca-Cola plant in India in the past eight months.

In October, Maoist rebels bombed a Coca-Cola plant in Andhra Pradesh to protest against U.S.-led strikes in Afghanistan.

After the attack, Coca-Cola increased security at its operations in India where it has 26 company-owned plants and a number of franchised operations.
