India's Jan-March BOP surplus $6.19 billion

India's balance of payments surplus in the January-March quarter was $6.19 billion against a surplus of $3.12 billion in the same period the previous year, data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Saturday showed.

The current account showed a surplus of $2.02 billion in the same period compared to $772 million a year ago, the RBI said.

For the year ended March 2002, the balance of payments surplus was $11.76 billion versus $5.86 billion a year ago.

The current account surplus for the year was $1.35 billion compared with a deficit of $2.26 billion in the previous year.
