VSNL contacts Worldcom about dues

The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) on Thursday said it is talking to its international partner Worldcom, the US telecom major on the verge of bankruptcy, on the situation arising out of the American company's statement that it had uncovered improper accounting for almost $4 billion in expenses.

Worldcom is one of the 85 international partners of VSNL for carriage of calls and the US company's statement on Wednesday has sparked speculation on settlement of dues that it may owe to the Indian company.

"We are talking with Worldcom. Once we have a clear response, we will comment," VSNL said in a statement on Thursday.
