Software industry to earn $5 bn from export: Premji

Wipro Technologies' chairman Azim Premji on Thursday said the software industry was booming and the country was set to earn nearly $5 billion from software exports this year.

Addressing the members of the Confederation of Indian Industry in Kolkata, he said the software companies would hire nearly 300,000 engineers in the next 24 months to man the IT-enabled services.

The Wipro chairman said the country was now on a solid path and it was time for consolidation of the achievements and to go further to satisfy the customer. He said maintaining consistency was essential on an ongoing basis to remain in a competitive environment.
