CII, Buffalo University enter into information sharing pact

Confederation of India Industry has entered into a pact with the University of Buffalo, USA, to exchange information on research and investment opportunities in both the countries.

At the Center for Computational Research, professor William R Greiner, president of the University of Buffalo and CII president Ashok Soota signed a memorandum of understanding, formalising the relationship between the two.

The MoU declared that apart from exchanging literature and information on research, investment opportunities and other activities, the two countries would identify areas for running joint programs. It also confirmed their commitment to exchange faculty on a need basis and to participate in major events organised by the two partners.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) who hosted the CII CEOs delegation on the first day of their business development mission to Western New York on Friday said: ''This business development mission marks the beginning of a journey that is full of promise for Buffalo and Western New York - to explore the possibility of joint ventures, to find new markets for our respective technologies and to promote economic development."

''There are so many advantages of investing in Western New York. We need to make sure that people from around the nation and the world become aware about the great opportunities for investment that lie right here in Western and Upstate New York. This mission is a great forward step in that process,'' she added.

A CII release on Saturday said that the CEOs delegation visited the University of Buffalo Technology Showcase incorporating displays from several Buffalo based hi-tech and biotech companies where Senator Clinton and the delegates were introduced to plans for the proposed Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bio-informatics.

Senator Clinton and the delegation also toured the University of Buffalo's Technology Incubator and were introduced to three Buffalo-based incubator companies. Following the tour, Senator Clinton hosted a roundtable discussion with the business leaders and representatives from the University of Buffalo.

Senator Clinton and CII CEOs delegation are scheduled to attend a reception with business, civic and community leaders from Buffalo and Eerie County on Saturday.

Soota announced that CII's plans to follow-up this delegation to the region with two more in the next three months. While one delegation will be focused on technology, the other will focus on biotechnology, he pointed out.

He also extended an invitation to Senator Clinton to lead a business delegation from the State of New York to India.
