Chinese province names TCS' Ramadorai as IT consultant

In a rare honour, a Chinese province on Wednesday named S Ramadorai, CEO of Asia's largest software and services company Tata Consultancy Service, as its information technology consultant.

"This is the first time that a Chinese province has honoured an Indian IT expert," an official source said in Qingdao, China.

"Shandong province, which is hoping to be a major software production base in China, would like to utilise Ramadorai's rich experience in the world of IT," he added.

The honour comes as TCS plans to position itself as one of the leading IT services providers in China within the next five years, company sources said.

The Indian Ambassador to China, Shivshankar Menon, said he was confident that by appointing an Indian IT adviser, Shandong province has found a "good and fitting partner".

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 'India Day' in Qingdao at the '2002 China international household electronic appliances exposition', Menon called for extensive interaction between India and China.

"I hope 'India Day' is the beginning of a long and mutually profitable relationship between people and businessmen of India and Qingdao," the ambassador said.

"This celebration of 'India Day' is the first such event being organised by the Indian embassy in a province of China," he said.

The Indian embassy is organising a seminar, Indian food festival, a film festival and a photo exhibition during the five-day fair.
