Railways may slash Rajdhani, Shatabdi fare

The Railway board is considering the possibility of offering a short-term discount on the prestigious Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, official sources said on Monday.

The recent slashing of fares by some domestic airlines had resulted in considerably reducing the difference between the Railways' and the airlines' fare structures.

This has necessitated the chalking out of strategies by the Railways to retain its passenger base. The board is planning to offer a discount for a period of three to four months starting from August 1.

Railway Minister Nitish Kumar had directed the board to explore revision of fares in these trains, the sources added.
