Bank employees on strike

Bank employees across the country on Friday went on a day's strike to protest the alleged 'unfair labour policies' of Standard Chartered Bank.

All India Bank Employees Association, which has called the strike claimed that class III and IV employees were on strike in public and private sector banks, including foreign.

President of AIBEA S D Dhopeshwarkar said the strike has effected the working of the banks as clerical work would not be carried out.

Reserve Bank of India sources said that clearing operations at the apex bank were likely to be affected because of non-participation by member banks.

Shiv Sena affiliated Bank Karmachari Sena Mahasangh has, however, decided not to participate in the strike though it opposed the 'anti-labour' policies of SCB.

AIBEA has alleged that the foreign bank was forcing Indian employees out of employment through 'coercive, vindictive inter-state transfers' in violation of existing industrial tribunal awards and bipartite settlements.
