'We hope the zero duty regime is deferred from 2003 to 2005'

Satish Kaura

  • Samtel supports the recommendations of the Ministry of Information Technology for deferring the duty regime from 2003 to 2005 and we hope that these recommendations are accepted and come through in the coming Budget.
  • The Information Technology hardware industry has made a very strong request for certain measures which will allow the local industry to be better prepared for the zero-duty regime expected in 2005. We hope the government announces the incentive package in this regard in the coming Budget.
  • There are some serious duty anomalies in computer monitors, tubes and glass-product segments. Therefore, there is a strong current need for correcting these anomalies in the current Budget.

Satish Kaura is chairman and managing director, Samtel Color Limited.
