Kelkar report postponed; to be submitted on Fri

December 26, 2002 12:22 IST

Advisor Vijay Kelkar, who was to submit his first report on indirect taxes on Thursday, has postponed it as Finance Minister Jaswant Singh is unwell.

Official sources told PTI that it would now be submitted on Friday along with the report on direct taxes.

Kelker Task Force on tax reforms, which has already submitted two consultation papers on direct and indirect taxes, is expected to water down some of its recommendations in the final report, particularly on personal Income Tax pertaining to incentives for housing loans in the face of widespread criticism from within the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Originally, the final report on indirect taxes was to have been submitted to Singh on Thursday and the one on direct taxes on Friday. Now both the reports would be submitted on Friday, the sources said.
