Jalan sees soft rate policy continuing

Reserve Bank of India Governor Bimal Jalan said on Monday the RBI would continue with its soft rate policy "as of now" and rising inflation would have no impact on the country's monetary policy.

"There is no change in the RBI's stance as of now," Jalan told reporters in New Delhi when asked about the possibility of any rate change.

"I expect the impact of rising inflation on the monetary policy environment to be benign," he added.

Jalan said the RBI would review the 2002-03 GDP estimates in October to take into account the drought hitting the country.
