Microsoft Inc, the world's largest software company, is planning to enhance its existing portfolio of software products with Indian language support.

It will also launch products supporting Indian languages. The company is working on a project to extend the existing support of Indian language available with Office XP to Bengali, Malayalam, Oriya and Assamese over the next 12 to 18 months.

Microsoft will also launch an Indian language version on Content Management Server, its web content management software, in the next three months. The company expects that with this launch it will be able tap the burgeoning local language web content management market in the country.

The company, on Tuesday, also announced the launch of its first localised server called SharePoint Portal Server.

"The launch of the localised version of SharePoint Portal Server extends Microsoft's offering in the desktop space into the more complex server based Indian language solutions market," said Sanjiv Mathur, group marketing manager, Microsoft India.

Besides, Microsoft is also working with several local partners and software vendors to develop a range of business solutions including smart tags, file tracking applications, keyboard drivers, transliteration engines and vertical solutions.

As a part of its e-governance initiatives, the company has an agreement with the Madhya Pradesh government to jointly develop and deploy technology solutions for e-governance in the state.

According to the agreement between the companies, two centres of excellence will be set up in the state on Microsoft technologies jointly by Microsoft and Madhya Pradesh Agency for promotion of Information Technology.

Microsoft will also initiate setting up of a steering committee that will facilitate the state government of Madhya Pradesh to develop and IT road map for the next three years.

The blueprint will lay the foundations of e-governance application development, e-health services, IT infrastructure upgrade, skill set development and resource mobilisation amongst others.

The company also works with other states like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
