Banks to strike work on Aug 29

Leading bank officers' organisations decided to observe one-day token strike on August 29 in support of their demands, including removal of tax on allowances and perquisites.

A decision to this effect was taken in Mumbai on Friday at a joint meeting of four organisations, All India Bank Officers' Confederation, All India Bank Officers' Association, Indian National Bank Officers' Congress and National Organisation of Bank Officers.

The organisations demanded a complete review of disciplinary procedures applicable to bank officers.

AIBOC general secretary Shantha Raju decribed as ''unfair''levying of tax on allowances and perquisites.

They drew attention towards ''huge addition'' of workload due to diversification of activities in banks and non-recruitment of people after the reduction of manpower through voluntary retirement scheme.
