10,000 more 'green cards' for Indian IT professionals by 2002: GermanyIn a bid to intensify bilateral cooperation, Germany has decided to further open up its Information Technology sector by increasing the issuance of 'green cards' to Indian IT professionals by another 10,000 by next year.German Chancellor Gerhard Schroedar would formally announce This during his three-day visit to India beginning October 28. Under the programme started in October this year, a total of 9,738 green cards had been approved, of which 2,046 had been given to young graduates from India. In order to attract the IT brains from India and make it more popular, the German government is also contemplating prolonging the duration of stay beyond five years and allowing spouse and children of the professionals to stay, Axel Garlach, state secretary in the federal ministry of economies and technology told a group of visiting Indian newspersons in Berlin on Thursday. The German chancellor who will be leading a high-level economic delegation to New Delhi will also visit Bangalore to have wide-ranging discussion on Indo-German collaboration in the development of Information Technology.
