Mashreqbank denies any link with terrorist accountsUAE-based Mashreqbank has categorically denied press reports alleging that terrorists involved in the recent attacks in the US held credit cards issued by the bank. "There is absolutely no truth in the reports and no single statement in the reports is correct," chief executive officer of Mashreqbank Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair said when contacted by PTI in Dubai for his reaction to a report in London's Sunday Express in this regard. The UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan Nasr Al Suwaidi also expressed serious concern over the report, described by Mashreqbank as entirely baseless. "We are disturbed by the report. We have a lot of business with and trust in India. During this hour of crisis we should stand together in the interest of the two economies," he said. Abdul Aziz said Mashreqbank had checked all its databases and does not have any accounts or business relationships with any of the 19 names connected to the attack. The bank operates a single branch in Khartoum focused on trade finance activity and has never issued any cards from that branch, he said. The bank denies the report that it has been contacted by the FBI. Like all American and foreign banks operating in the United States, Mashreqbank has worked together with the Federal Reserve Bank to verify that it does not hold any accounts in the names of the suspects, Abdul Aziz said.
