Sebi waiting for CSE settlement: Mehta

The Securities & Exchange Board of India is waiting for the upcoming crucial settlement number 150, to take place before initiating measures to diffuse the payment crisis that had gripped Calcutta Stock Exchange last fortnight.

Sebi chairman D R Mehta said: "We are waiting for settlement 150 which is due on Thursday," adding that the CSE president Kamal Parekh had said at a press conference on Tuesday that though pay-in process would be smooth there could, however, be a marginal shortfall.

Mehta categorically said that he was not going to give the details regarding Sebi's possible course of action before that.

Meanwhile, senior Sebi officials from Bombay are still camping in the exchange, investigating the transactions for the last two settlements. As per their instructions, the exchange blocked pay-out from 26 accounts which were still under scrutiny.
